More than 2000 ASHA workers protested at the district magistrate office in Kolhapur today for their three months pending salary and other demands. Accredited Health Care Workers (ASHA) are frontline workers in this pandemic. These brave people are overburdened with non-COVID and COVID tasks. They risk their life with inadequate safety gear and only 33 INR as their daily COVID incentive. The seventy thousand ASHA workers from Maharashtra are on indefinite strike for the last seven days while the country is preparing for its third wave. The strike has also badly affected the vaccination drive in rural parts of India.
