2) General information about licensing stock imagery is also available.

Imagery
There are two different types of license for stock images a) Rights-Managed (RM) and b) Royalty-Free (RF). RM stands for rights-managed – With this license you only pay for what you’re using the image
for. Rights-managed licenses has restrictions on how, where, when or for how long an image is being used. RF stands for royalty-free – This is the most flexible and easiest option. You pay a one time fee
to use the image with no restrictions. You can use the image multiple times and for multiple projects, but the image cannot be resold to anyone.

Footage
1) There is only one license type with fixed pricing.
2) If you have a specific requirement, you can contact us on ricky@majorityworld.com.

What is meant by ‘commercial use’ or ‘editorial use’?
1) Commercial use means that an image or footage is used to sell a product, promote something or raise money for a cause. This includes use in advertising, marketing, promotion, packaging, publication covers, advertorials and consumer or merchandising products.
2) Editorial use is when an image or footage is used to document a newsworthy article, a book or an educational text.
3) Getting permission: If an image is used for commercially reasons then you might need a model or property release. A model or property release is signed permission from an individual, or owner of a property, giving permission for a photograph or footage to be used commercially. You will need to contact us to check if you need extra permissions to use a specific image.

General

Why do you call yourself Majority World?
We were born from the concept that the ‘developing world’ is numerically larger than the ‘developed world’, i.e the West. However, terminology such as ‘Third World’ ….etc. are demeaning and stereotypical . Thus we call ourselves Majority World and support talent from those countries.

Is the term Majority World registered?
Yes, besides being a trademark, the terminology is also registered by us.

Is Majority World a UK based organisation and if so why?
Majority World is registered in the UK simply because most of our (and the publishing world’s) clients are based in the West. It allows us to communicate more easily with our current and potential customers, linking them with the photographers in the majority world. However our regular operations is based in Sri Lanka and our management team is mostly made up of nationalities from the majority world.

What is the link between Drik and Majority World?
Dr Shahidul Alam founded Drik, an activist media agency registered in Bangladesh, in 1989. Subsequently, he founded Majority World, registered in UK, in 2004. They support each other, working closely when required with Drik offering curatorial, publishing and event management support while  Majority World brings its global reach of photographers to Drik.
