Description : The Ultra Poor Programme in Bangladesh was designed by BRAC with the aim to empower the poorest women in Bangladesh economically, socially and psychologically. A set of women in ultra-poor households are identified to be programme recipients. For 18 months, recipient households receive training and weekly assistance with starting a small business. This assistance can take the form of being provided with a cow, a goat, a chicken or a vegetable garden. Beneficiary households also receive monthly visits from health volunteers and have access to a lawyer. The beneficiaries take part in confidence-building sessions about how to use microfinance and are enrolled in village-level microfinance organisations. Netrokona, Bangladesh.
