Description : Li Yibao, an elderly man from the Kuomintang forces, continues to smoke tobacco from the same bamboo pipe which he used back when he was a warrior. This remains a daily routine for him to the present day. Images of Yunnan culture that have nearly disappeared from most places could still be seen in Baan Tam-Ngob. Thailand. The Kuomintang or KMT, a moderate socialist democratic party was founded in 1912, by several revolutionary groups and ruled much of China from 1928 until their defeat by the Communist Party of China, in 1949. The Kuomintang forces had to flee in Taiwan and Thailand from Communist persecution. In Thailand, there descendents have settled in the area of Baan Tam-Ngob, Chaiprakarn District, Doi Mae Salong, Chiang Rai Province. Today there are very few exiled Kuomintang soldiers still alive. They try to preserve as much historical evidence in their area as they can.
